Learning at SLIHSD

Three ways to study, one practical standard

You choose the delivery mode that fits your life. Whichever you choose, the teaching is built on practice: you produce work you can use, not just notes you can keep.

Delivery modes

Online, face-to-face or blended

Online

Guided sessions, readings and assignments you can complete from anywhere with a phone or computer. Suited to learners outside Mile 91 or with unpredictable schedules.

  • Live and recorded sessions
  • Mobile-friendly materials
  • Tutor support by WhatsApp group
Face-to-face

Classroom teaching in Mile 91 with direct facilitator contact, group exercises and peer learning. Best for learners who want structure and in-person practice.

  • Small cohort classes
  • Hands-on group work
  • Shared computer access where needed
Blended

The default for most working students: study core content online, then come together for practical, assessment and simulation days.

  • Online theory, in-person practice
  • Fewer travel days
  • Weekend contact sessions

Teaching methods

How the learning actually happens

Every certificate mixes these methods across its three months.

Weekend and evening classes

Timetables built around a full working week, so study does not cost you your job.

Workshops

Intensive skill sessions on tools such as proposal writing, data collection or safeguarding policy drafting.

Field exercises

Structured community-based tasks where you practise assessment, interviewing and documentation.

Simulations

Scenario-based exercises: a response coordination meeting, a case referral decision, a donor pitch.

Guest lectures

Practitioner sessions from experienced sector professionals, scheduled as availability allows.

Self-paced study

Reading, reflection and assignment work supported by curated open learning resources.

External resources

Reputable free platforms we point learners to

These are independent organisations. SLIHSD does not own, operate, accredit or claim affiliation with them — we simply reference them as useful further study for our learners.
